When a young person with SEND turns 18, there are financial challenges to face and decisions to make which can catch parents by surprise. The transition to adulthood usually comes as a rude shock to parents who find themselves unable to automatically step in and help their loved one with their finances. Whether your young person has mental capacity or not will determine how you can help, but what are the principles of mental capacity and how is it assessed?
The course walks parents and carers through these challenges and gives practical and easy to follow steps to follow. We close with our BOLDER framework, a checklist for adulthood planning.

My name is Rhiannon Gogh, I’m a Chartered Financial Adviser, a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and Founder of SENDFA (The UK Alliance of Special Needs Financial Advisers). I have a son with autism and what I’ve learnt about financial planning for SEND families over the last decade has utterly shocked me. Putting together a pathway for parents to follow has taken seven years of trial and error, research, and collaboration with other professionals. There was no handbook to follow, so I’ve written the ‘Planning with Love’ series of books for families like mine.
In my career I’ve sadly come across many families who faced irreversible financial harm, just because they didn’t know the issues and what steps they could have taken. It’s my aim that these courses will help you avoid the traps and give you the confidence you need to step forward in your planning for the future.
I’ve trained thousands of SEND parents, presented to special schools, charities, financial planning bodies and industry organisations. I’m excited to share these valuable courses with as many SEND parents as possible on the Carer’s Academy.
